If you experience depression, Symbiosis may be able to help you cope
Symboisis isn't a medical app. It can't diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure your depression, nor can it replace your therapist. However, it provides tools, tips, recommendations, exercises, and resources that may help you.
Journal and track your depression
Symbiosis's mood and emotion journaling can help develop your emotional acuteness. Not only will just the practice help, but prompts specific to depression may also help you develop insight into your symptoms, beliefs, and behaviors.
You can also take questionnaires to screen for depression on Symbiosis. Typically these are questionnaires that may be used in clincial settings to assist in formally diagnosing depression. Symbiosis doesn't diagnose you, but it can help you learn about the diagnosis process, treatment options, and resources.
Adapt your experience on Symbiosis
If you wish, you can let Symbiosis's algorithms utilize your mood and emotion journaling, depression screenings, or other data to influence your personal recommendation algorithms. We have specific algorithmic tweaks available as strategies to help people with depression.
Socialize with less effort and initiative
One of the first priorities for designing features in Symbiosis was figuring out how to support people struggling with depression who may be in a downward social health and mental health spiral. Socializing often requires more initiative than some people experiencing depression can handle. That's why Symbiosis has so much emphasis on inbound messaging and social recommendations. If you're experiencing depression and can't take the initiative to maintain relationships or plan a social gathering, we want to encourage your supporters and other connections to message you and invite you out. Privacy is very important to us, so we designed Symbiosis so that it's not telling people you're depressed. Instead, features like "People to contact" and "People to invite" anonymously include people who are struggling with mental health along with people chosen for other reasons. To be included in recommendations based on your struggle with depression, loneliness, or isolation, you may opt-in directly to these features by toggling settings.
