Social Health
Symbiosis Applications, PBC started with a desire to improve social health for as many people as possible. We envision a society in which few people are lonely or bored, where neighbors are friends and coworkers socialize outside of the confines of the office or after-work events. We want to make a world where adults do not have to continually wonder how to make or maintain friendships.
Recent studies have shown that having supportive relationships is one of the strongest predictors of living happy lives and longevity. Unfortunately in the United States and across much of the world, social health has been on the decline for years. As a society, we have largely replaced in-person social contact with many hours of unsatisfying and unhealthy screen-based content consumption per day. We want to reverse that with Symbiosis.

Mental Health
Mental health is an increasingly common societal interest. As a society, we are becoming more aware of how mental health can impact our physical health, social health, safety, security, communities, environments, institutions, and livelihoods. Unmanaged severe mental health disorders can cause havoc to ourselves, our relationships, and our communities. Managing some mental health difficulties can lead to success in meeting goals. Excellent mental health can do wonders.
It is important to understand that mental health is a general concept. It is important to not conflate general mental health or mental illness with specific conditions and disorders. Both general mental health and specific conditions or disorders can fall on wide spectrums and be influenced by a variety of factors, including socioeconomics, genetics, lifestyle, situation, relationships, drug and alchohol use, nutrition, and even language and posture! Much mental illness goes undiagnosed and untreated. As a society, we must work to reduce stigmas regarding mental health and mental illness and be more supportive of people. Whether someone is struggling to cope, making efforts to improve their already generally positive mental health, or doing anything in between, let's try to find ways to be patient and supportive.

Community Strength
Community can play a tremendous role in shaping our lives. We see its impact online, at work, in our homes, in nature, at sporting events, in our political institutions, in our laws, and nearly everywhere else. Our cultures and community relationships affect our thoughts and behaviors.
Symbiosis Applications, PBC is concerned about trending degradation of community strength. We are worried people arent't identifying or living by their own core values, instead following powerful leaders and groupthink. We are worried about increasingly divisive politics. We are worried about AI making it harder for people to trust, especially when believable deep-fakes of writing, imagery, voice, and video are button clicks away. We are worried people aren't open to new experiences or changing their opinions with new information. We are worried about neighbors not knowing each other or making efforts to assist each other. We are worried about people socially isolating when unnecessary. We are worried about racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and all other forms of bigotry, war, and other activities and behaviors that foster hatred and seek to divide, dehumanize, or destroy people. We are worried about the vulnerable people who live isolated, ashamed, depressed, anxious, harrassed, bullied, or abused. We are worried about the 1/3 of abuse that goes unreported and untreated by community resources. We are worried about the proliferation of social apps that seek to maximize groups for similarity of their members which neglects that oxytocin is both a bonding hormone and an antisocial othering hormone.
Symbiosis Applications, PBC is committed to doing our part to try to make the world, our nations, our regions, our municipalities, our homes, our offices, and the locations we frequent better places to live together. We do so because we are hopeful.
